A Quick Look at Elastics

Elastics are orthodontic devices composed of latex or a non-latex material that are designed to keep your arch wires securely attached to your braces brackets . In some cases, elastic bands may also be attached to one bracket on the top teeth and one bracket along the bottom teeth, so that the jaw may move into correct position. The strength, diameter, and width of this type of elastics may vary based on how they are being used.

Braces

Many patients with traditional metal braces choose to change the colors of their elastics during each orthodontic visit to coordinate with their personal style or upcoming holiday. However, these elastics may become discolored over time, especially if they are pale in color. Damon clear braces offer patients an alternative to elastics as they utilize high-technology archwires and tieless braces, eliminating the need for elastics along the front of the brackets. However, elastic ties may still be required to correctly align the jaws.
