What Are Dental Impressions?

A dental impression refers to a mold or model of the teeth that is often created in order to plan a patient’s orthodontic treatment . These impressions are made by having you bite down into a container filled with a rubber-like material for several minutes, after which point the material hardens and is used to create a plaster model.

Your orthodontist will recommend that dental impressions be taken prior to initiating your orthodontic treatment, regardless of whether you are choosing traditional metal braces, Damon clear braces, or the Invisalign system. In some cases, your orthodontist may also use an intraoral camera to take digital images of your teeth.
